ImageQ. Why should I purchase a Trojan Pride License Plate?
A: When you decide you want to showcase your Trojan pride through the purchase of a Trojan Pride License Plate, you are not only saying that you love VSU but that you are also committed to the support and growth of the University. Support for this initiative helps the Chapter fulfill one of its highest priorities, raising funds to support local area students who desire to matriculate at our beloved Alma Mater. With such a significant number of students at the University who are from the Washington, DC metropolitan area (Washington, DC, and the Maryland counties of Prince George’s and Montgomery), your support for this initiative is critical to our overall success.

Q. Can only VSU Alumni purchase a Trojan Pride License Plate?
A: Absolutely not! Trojan Pride License Plates, or what we more affectionally call Trojan Tags, are available to anyone within the state of Maryland that is in support of the purpose and objectives of the Virginia State University Alumni Association and its Washington, DC Chapter. Simply put, if you love VSU and live in the state of Maryland these plates are for YOU.

Q. What is the initial cost and annual cost thereafter if I purchase a Trojan Tag?
A: Trojan Tags are $50.00 per Maryland-registered vehicle. Twenty-five dollars ($25) of this amount will be paid directly to Maryland’s Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) for the actual plate and specialty license plate registration. The remaining twenty-five dollars ($25) is considered a donation that will go directly to Virginia State University for perpetual scholarship support via the Chapter’s Endowed Scholarship Fund. It is important to note that this $25 amount is 100 percent tax-deductible. Other than this initial cost there is no annual fee to carry the plate other than the normal annual car registration fees that the state of Maryland requires.Image

Q. Can I purchase my Trojan Tags directly from Maryland's MVA?
A: No. You can only purchase your Trojan Tags through the Washington, DC Chapter. Both the MVA application and applicable payment must be sent directly to the Chapter. Do not send your application or payment to MVA; doing so will only delay delivery of your license plate.

Q. What kind of vehicles can showoff the Trojan Pride License Plate?
A: Trojan Tags can be displayed on passenger cars, multi-purpose vehicles (Jeeps, Motor homes, Blazers, etc.) and trucks up to and including 1 ton. Trojan Tags can also be featured on motorcycles; however, we would need to obtain signatures from at least twenty-five (25) interested Maryland residents to obtain them. If you own a motorcycle and would be interested in obtaining a Trojan Pride License Plate for your motorcycle, please send us an e-mail at info2@trojantags.com

Q. Can I personalize my Trojan Tags with a particular phrase or number (grad year)?
A:
No. Unfortunately this is not an available option through the state of Maryland’s organizational license plate program. Although the state considers this a personalized plate, it cannot be personalized with a particular phrase or series of numbers. Plate numbers are only issued in sequence order based on when the plate is purchased. You will be informed of what the next sequential number is once your Request Form is received.

Q. Can I purchase a Trojan Tag even if my vehicle is not due to be renewed?

A:
Yes. You can purchase a Trojan Tag at any point during your registration period.

ImageQ. Will I receive two plates?

A:
Yes! You will receive one plate for the front of your vehicle and one for the rear of your vehicle. These are official license plates issued by the state of Maryland and will replace your existing plates. Your new registration card will be mailed with your new Trojan Tags and will show your new license plate number.

Q. I currently have handicapped plates, can I still purchase a Trojan Tag?

A:
Yes and no. Trojan Tags are not available with the handicap wheelchair logo on them. However, you can still purchase a Trojan Tag, but if you want to be authorized to park in handicapped parking spaces, you will need to secure a handicap placard to hang from your rear view mirror.

Q. Can I keep my Trojan Tags if I buy a new car?

A: Yes! These plates may be transferred to your new car or similar. The state simply requires that the registered owner of the new car and plates remains the same.

Q. What do I do with my old plates once I receive my Trojan Tags?Image

A: Your old plates should be returned back to any MVA office or inspection station once your new Trojan Tags are received.

Q. What if I want to purchase more than one set of plates for two different
vehicles?
A: We would love for you to do that. You can order as many plates as cars registered in your name. However, you will still have to pay for both (i.e., this doesn't mean two-for-one). A scholarship donation must be made for each set of plates you order. For example, if a husband and wife wanted Trojan Tags on both of their cars, they would owe $50.00 each ($100 total).

Q. What if I no longer want to keep my Trojan Tags after purchase and wanted to go back to regular
plates, want do I have to do?
A: The same way you would for any other plate - just return them to your local MVA office and request new plates.

Q. If I have additional questions who do I contact?

A: Please contact David Meyers, Chapter President, at 240-604-4228 or send an e-mail to info2@trojantags.com
